sooooo, bear, what seems to be the hot new topic on your mind?
ah, surveillance tech and fear-mongering american propaganda? huh... well, as someone (unfortunately) living in america, let me give you my perspective about our... weird obsession with being angry at everything.
it's all over the news: a CEO said something stupid; more layoffs at big companies; big tech got away with murder again; donald trump made an idiotic executive order to sate his manchild ego; people are accused of being criminals for no reason; some rando on the internet said a weird thing and got UTTERLY DESTROYED BY FACTS AND LOGIC LOL; and a hot new netflix drama about abusive boyfriends/neighbors/serial killers just came out to millions of views.
and i don't see the appeal at all! i drafted a blog post the other day about how tired i am of cynicism in american culture and artists, and i can relate it to the endless drumbeat of "everyone is out to get you". what ava said in her latest post, that climate change is the biggest threat to our species, is correct. but the fight for a healthy environment doesn't get those sweet clicks and engagement, doesn't it? and so you see the average american's paranoia and individualism reflected in those netflix dramas and mainstream media news programs that we can't stop watching, because it reinforces those fears.
...and we're just drowning in this sludge. our minds are overstimulated by this endless drumbeat. and we weren't meant to process all of this. this is a lot to take in, and it never stops. we might never be able to take it all in. i think a major reason why we're having so much trouble progressing as a society is because we don't know where to start. and because the powers that be are so dead-set on instilling fear amongst our species, we don't know if we even can. because hey, the people we thought we could trust might stab us in the back at a moment's notice, so why bother, right?
sigh... it's tough being an artist in a society that hates everyone and everything. i'm tired, man. tired of being told that life sucks and everyone is evil. please! stop! telling me!
