please put your phone down

i am not joking around with you this time. i am asking politely and firmly, please put your phone down.

put your phone down when you're in a social situation. i want to talk with you. i am not interested in the funny memes you find on tik tok or what chatGPT thinks of your latest health concerns.

put your phone down when you're watching a movie or show. if you want to be entertained, pay attention to the TV. netflix's writers making their characters explain what's going on out-loud is not a good thing.

put your phone down when i'm showing you something. if i'm showing you something cool i found the other day, you scrolling through twitter on your phone tells me everything about how interested you really are.

do you not think that pulling out your phone in these situations is rude? when someone wants to socialize with you and you'd rather scroll twitter, how do you think they feel? i for one, would feel very hurt. not to sound like a grumpy old bat, but when i was growing up in the 2000s-2010s, it was frowned upon to have your phone out in school when the teacher was teaching. it should still be frowned upon. long ago, we humans weren't expected to be online and connected 24/7. we still shouldn't be. many problems we're facing in society today all go back to that stupid smartphone. we cannot tolerate this any longer.

i am begging you, all of you. please put your phone down.
